The kids and I were able to take a trip to New York City April 15-19, 2009. It turned out even better than we could have imagined! The weather was perfect, not too hot and not too cold, sunny and happy so much smiles and laughter. We were able to meet my Aunt Liz there. Her son, my cousin, Scott and his family lives on Roosevelt Island, just across the East River from Manhattan. We were able to stay in Scott's apartment while he and his wife went to get living arrangements made for their family to move to Indiana for him to go to grad school at Purdue. Aunt Liz was a dream. She is the funniest person I know and very easy going which made the trip so much fun. She also knows more about New York and how to get around than any local.
This was a tram that we rode on to get across the East River from Roosevelt Island to the city. It is the same tram that Spider Man saved Mary Jane and the kids on in one of his movies so Derek loved the tram even more Our first time to go to the New York subway :)
Here we all are with the amazing Aunt Liz. I sure wish I could take her on all our trips!
Times Square!! One of our first New York experiences.
This little boy with us is Drew, he is my cousin Scott's little boy that we were able to take care of and take with us on our adventures in New York. He sure was a New York baby through and through! He was so even tempered. He napped in his stroller and had more stamina than most of us. We sure did appreciate his even temperment and he shared in the excitement of all the newness of New York that was old hat to him but new and exciting for us.
More of the famous Spider Man tram.

Just outside of Tiffany's. The famous Tiffany diamond they had in there was amazing, I wish I could have gotten a picture of it. (the security guard told me I couldn't take a picture of it)
What a toy store, we (we the kids) could have spent DAYS in there!
This was the very first pizza place in America. We loved it. They were so nice to the kids, they took them in the back so they could see the ovens where they cook the pizzas.
This is St. Paul's Church that was used after 911 that was converted into a first aid station. It was quite incredible to see. There was a lot of memories still there of that time. It was also the church that George Washington went to pray in after his innaugeration as our first President.
This is President Washington's bench in the church
Just beyond this was where the Twin Towers stood
This was the first fire station that responded to the attacks of 911 at the Twin Towers

More of Central Park with Hannah, Derek, and Drew
This group of street performers were so much fun to watch. They came and picked Derek out of the crowd to help in their performance. Derek lined up with 4 other volunteers while one of the dancers ran and did a flip over all of them!

One of the best museums I've ever been to, and we've been to a lot.
We had very full days. A much needed rest for my marathon boy. We did at least 10 hour days of non stop walking. We decided New York isn't for sissies.

Wow, what beautiful shots of New York's sky line. That night we were singing the Frank Sinatra song, "New York, New York" and blowing kisses 360 degrees to all of New York not wanting to leave.
